Here is a really useful and simple way of finding out what your waist measurement should be: itβs half your height, or less. So simple.
So, a woman of 5’4″ (64″) should have a waist of 32″ or less.
And a man of 6′ (72″) should have a waist measurement of 36″, or less.
As an osteopath, I often work with stressed patients who are in pain, and quite possibly dealing with inflammation in their muscles or joints, or their gut. Finding ways to help them tackle their possibly excess weight is always helpful.
This calculation seemed to me to be brilliantly simple, if slightly depressing (since my own waist is slightly above this metric, although not by much π).
However it also inspiring – since our waist measurement is partly related to our diet and foods that may trigger belly bloating, but also to the exercises we do.
Over the next few articles I shall be exploring this a little more, particularly foods and our hormones – anything that can help reduce inflammation in the body is to be explored and applauded!
I shall leave you with a simple waist exercise, which you can do sitting at your desk, or in the coffee shop, or even sitting at red traffic lights:
Breathe out, and holding that out breath, gently pull your core abdominal muscles in, hold and release, hold and release, hold and release – and breathe in. You can do this once, or repeat two or three times. And that’s it.
If your lower back is a little weak, this pulling in of your abdominal muscles is a useful tactic whenever you drive around a corner, even more so if you are the passenger. It can really help to get your core muscles more responsive.
I hope you found this advice and tip useful, let me know how you get on π.
And if you found it helpful, then please share!
