Introducing your osteopath, Christina Raven…

I am registered with the General Osteopathic Council and have over 35 years of osteopathy experience.

Originally from Hertfordshire, I studied music at Goldsmiths College in London. (I am still involved with music and singing, both listening and performing).

I then retrained at the British School of Osteopathy (which then became the University College of Osteopathy, and is currently the Health Sciences University) and qualified in 1990.

Since then, I have built up a practice in South East London, and also back home in Hertfordshire since 2007.

I love my work, and find it immensely rewarding to be able to help my patients find ease and comfort in their bodies, and hence in their daily lives.

In particular, I relish working with musicians and performers of many different kinds:
singers, instrumentalists, dancers, actors.

A couple of years ago I did an intensive training in the Osteopathic Care of the Professional Voice, which has been a wonderful addition to my range of techniques. It has given me a far deeper understanding of how to help singers of all kinds, from keen amateurs to the fully professional.

They tell me that my treatment helps them to sing with less tension in their tongue and their jaw, and that their tone has improved to the point where other singers notice.

Professional Growth

It is an important part of an osteopath’s professional life to maintain their Continuous Professional Development (CPD). I make sure that I keep up to date with current ideas in techniques and research, and take parallel courses that support my holistic approach to how I practise as an osteopath.

I also enjoy teaching – I have been a clinic tutor at the British School of Osteopathy, a cranial tutor at the British College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy, and a tutor in the children’s clinic at the European School of Osteopathy; as well as giving presentations eg on the osteopathic treatment of the voice.

Due to my interest in “cranial” osteopathy, or Micro Osteopathy as I like to call it, I am also a member of the Sutherland Society and in December 2014 was made a Fellow of the Sutherland Cranial College. (William Garner Sutherland was the osteopath who, in the 1920s, discovered the existence of the subtle movement in the skull that underpins this particular approach.)

Your Body in Harmony

I am passionate both about music, AND helping chaotic bodies lose their pain & find their harmony. That’s why my osteopathy practice is called “Your Body in Harmony”!

Over the years I have learnt profound lessons, both from my own experiences of recovering from big operations and cancer to a major car accident with multiple spinal and pelvic fracture; also from my patients and how their bodies change and respond.

Reflecting on these, and following up on points that come up during treatment, is an invaluable part of my learning and growth as a practitioner.

I have patients who are recovering from their own treatment for cancer who tell me that it is a great help and reassurance to them that they know I understand at least part of what they are going through, since I have been there too.

My aim is to help you find a healthy balance between what your body can do now, and what you would like to achieve. I use a range of treatments to accomplish this for you.
