Oooh, excitement, someone has bought me!! I have been waiting for this moment for so long. Someone will take me out and care for me, take me on walks, or runs, or up mountains, or dancing, or . . . oooh, I’m so excited!
Oh. I’ve arrived, somewhere, but she hasn’t taken me out of my packaging. I wonder why not.
She still hasn’t. I hope she’s alright.
This is so frustrating. I want to be out in the world, doing what I was created for, counting her steps – and I’m just lying here in the packaging, waiting for her to hear me.
I think I’ll have a snooze while I’m waiting.
[6 months later]
Oooh, excitement, she’s taken me out, and she’s watched the set-up video, and oh bliss – she’s freed my battery. Now I can truly come alive. I’m so excited
Ooh lovely, we’re going for a walk, up and down. I can’t see where we are, because she usually keeps me in the dark. It would be nice to see where we’re going sometimes. I’ll try and give her a hint that I like to see where she’s taking me, not just in a pocket, or clipped to a waistband or tucked into her bra.
She does an awful lot of sitting still. I wonder why. I hear her talking quite a lot about something called Zoom….
Sometimes we go for a drive – I wish she’d tell me where we’re going, it’s nice to know these things. Clearly she thinks of me as inanimate. What’s that phrase? – on a need to know basis. But Pedometers have feeling too! And I know she chose me, because she chose Blue as the colour option.
Quite a nice blue, tho I say so myself.
Sometimes I can hear her talking to people, friends, or her patients – that’s nice, I enjoy that. When she’s working she is sitting some of the time, but she’s also moving around. And sometimes she sings! She might sing to her patients – lullabies to the babies, snippets of song, or she improvises – she sings the song of their body. That’s lovely, I really like that.
And occasionally she sings with a friend, or a few friends – and the best is when she sings duets in a space with a beautiful sound. I’d like to actually see it one day, just dropping her another hint . . .
I know she’s aiming to do 10,000 steps every day, I heard her say so. And strange to tell it seems that once upon a time she used to be against the idea of a pedometer. Now I am glad to say she is converted to the virtues of MEEEE!!! And yes we are averaging 10k+. I’m so proud of her:
One day we did over 20,000 steps, that was a Red Letter Day.
Another day we only did 1639, but I could sense that she was in pain [I had a migraine – Ed.] so I forgave her, and sent her healing thoughts. I hear her saying that to other people, so it feels nice to send them to her in return.
I like it when she walks up and down while she’s on a phone call – I like to be Useful, I like being appreciated, I like feeling that I am doing my job as well as I can. And I like that she keeps a record of how many steps we do together each day.
We haven’t gone dancing yet, tho I know she wants to. Something about a pandemic, and social distancing. One day I hope we can. I’m not sure what kind of dancing it will be, but it all sounds such fun.
Oooh I am so excited – I think she has finally realised that I have feelings too, and she’s written them down for me, and she’s clipped me to the collar of her t-shirt. Oh thank you mummy!
