Your First Osteopathic Treatment
You are welcome to book your treatment at my Baldock or Bromley clinics.
Here’s what to expect at your first appointment with me:
- Firstly, I’ll take your basic details: name, address, phone numbers, GP, etc
- Next, we’ll look at the problem you’ve come with and explore what’s caused it, what makes it feel better or worse
- Then I’ll ask quite a lot of questions about your general health (including accidents and illnesses that you’ve had), and lifestyle, so that I can better understand the context for how your problem arose
- After the Case History, I’ll examine you. For this you may need to undress down to your underwear – some people feel more comfortable if they wear jogging or yoga pants
- Then, time permitting, I will give you some gentle treatment and we discuss what the problem is, how it started, and what the treatment is likely to involve
- Depending on the diagnosis and treatment plan, I may well give you some simple exercises and advice on things that you can do between sessions to help the problem.
You are welcome – and encouraged – to ask questions at any point. I’m here to help.
What Happens Next?
Your follow-up sessions may start off weekly, however I like to increase the gap between treatments as soon as possible.
During your next appointments, I may well give you more exercises as you improve, and other advice to support the healing process.
Once the problem has eased, a lot of patients find it helpful is to have “maintenance” treatment, say once every two or three months, once every six months or even once a year etc. Treat it as a kind of body “MOT” to make sure you keep as supple and fit as possible for the things you like to do in life.
